Green Tourism Policy

The Local Environment

St Mawes and the surrounding area is classified as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and we try to do our bit to keep it that way.

Energy Usage

Nearwater has been completely refurbished and a great deal of time, effort and money has gone in to efforts to reduce the energy usage of the house.  The roof and cavity walls have been insulated, all the windows changed for double glazed units and a new high efficiency condensing boiler has been installed.

Transport Policy

We encourage travel to us by public transport.  We provide a free pickup for customers arriving by ferry from the St Mawes town quay.  There is a bus service from Truro that passes Nearwater (anyone arriving by bus is given a £10 discount against their first night's stay).  We provide storage facilities for anyone bringing a bicyle or you can hire bicycles from Nearwater.  Local pubs and restaurants are within easy walking distance from the house and by using the ferries a great deal of the local area can be explored without using a car.

Other Stuff

We use local food producers wherever possible.  This not only provides our guests with a great local gastronomic experience it also supports the local community and reduces food miles.

We try to minimise water usage. We encourage our guests to do the same, however if you wish to take a long shower - well you are on holiday!

In the guest lounge/dining room and in the holiday cottage the flooring is bamboo. This was harvested from monitored forests and regrows in 3-5 years (unlike hardwood which takes 15-25 years).
